About a year and a half ago, I started a website called Attitudes 4 Innovation, as a way to express my love for entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-development.


As a young man fairly new to the online marketing space, I had a desire to grow a large audience online to read the articles I was posting on my new website, but had no idea how to spread the content.

I got my new business set up with an account on Twitter and Facebook and all the other channels they say you’re supposed to be on. I found myself playing around with Twitter more than anything, because it seemed to be the easiest place to connect with people for free. Facebook just kept trying to get me to buy ads.


Twitter was not new when I started using it for business purposes. I was simply just getting on the wagon, and although I fully understood how Twitter worked from a functionality standpoint (after all, I’m a 19 year old kid whose sort of an internet geek), I had no idea how to use it as a marketing tool.

I was fortunate to have a good friend from high school who was already running a successful business (multiple actually) at the age of 18. As someone who was just starting up my business, I figured I would reach out to him to see if he would be willing to help me.


We sat down for lunch in early January of 2014. He told me all about his businesses, particularly his most known venture, Sports Swag, and all the rumors lived up to be true. This kid was superstar. I told him about my new business and how I was trying to get my website more exposure. I told him how I didn’t have a marketing budget to advertise on Facebook, and I was trying to work Twitter to my advantage. He then mentioned how many Twitter followers he had for his business…
