How to Break Through Your Customers’ Trust Barrier

Here’s the thing: In todays world, often referred to as the information age, people do NOT trust marketers. The word “marketer” has developed a negative connotation over the past few years, as a result of so many sleazebags out there selling crappy products that don’t actually help anyone.

It’s filled with liars who are highly persuasive and charismatic, but don’t have an ounce of integrity in their body (Kevin Trudeau anyone?). It really is a shame, because it is making the lives of the honest businessmen so much harder.

Believe it or not, there are some marketers who actually sell products that provide genuine, long lasting value, and people who have a full intention of helping all their customers.

So how do we deal with this as marketers?? For the honest business people out there, how do you plan to overcome the lack of trust that is naturally flowing between customers and marketers?

Chances are, you probably have a product or service that actually helps someone and is well worth their money. But you are having a difficult time getting your message out there because you are looked down upon for expecting people to pay you.

Overcoming the Lack of Trust

Like all problems in business, this is something that must be and certain can be dealt with. You must annihilate the barrier your customer has put up that is blocking you from their world.

You can’t blame them, they probably have been ripped off before by someone in your industry and they’ll be damned if they let it happen again. They view you as an enemy. It’s your job as a marketer, to show them that are not an enemy, but indeed one of their greatest allies.

It really doesn’t matter what you are selling. The concept of building trust with your customers is essential in any market or niche. People do NOT buy from people they don’t trust.

That is just the fact of the matter. There are so many options out there that people don’t have to settle for buying from a company they hardly trust. They can go to the place where they know they will be treated well, and given value for their money.

Provide Value Before You Ask For The Sale

The best way to build trust with customers is to provide them value before you ever ask them for money. This concept was made famous in the internet marketing world, and has made many people highly successful.

If you can genuinely provide someone value before you ever give them the opportunity to buy from you, they will instantly begin to like you and trust you more.

Anyone who is willing to take a risk and handout some value for free, is viewed as someone who can be trusted in the customers eyes. It shows them that you are confident in yourself and your company, and you actually have in interest in helping them. They want to know that you care about them.

The concept of providing value before you ask for money can be executed in a variety of ways:

1) On the internet, you can provide tips and services through email on the topic of your niche.

2) You can hand out coupons or perhaps a sample of your product.

3) If you run a consulting agency, you can offer a free consultation where you actually show a genuine interest in someone before you ever bring up the money option.

Use you imagination. How can your business offer some value to potential buyers without asking for them to buy your stuff? Trust me, if they trust you, they will be much more open to buying from you.

Fulfill Your Promises

Another way to build trust in a customers eyes is to have full proof integrity and always come through with your promises.

This builds a solid reputation and will get the word out that your company actually gives a damn about it’s customers. It makes promises and it fulfills it’s promises. Similar to building trust with people as a person, a business that has integrity usually wins in the eyes of it’s customers because they know they are not going to get screwed over.

In the end, if you can provide true value to your customers, treat them with respect and fulfill your promises, and do that over a long period of time, your business should be able to overcome the barrier of trust that is so common in today’s marketplace.

It won’t be easy, but with hard work and commitment, it can be done. Use these tips to make it happen.
