Ajax Oliver recently wrote an amazing piece of content for Addicted2Success.com, a top notch motivation and self improvement website that has inspired millions and continues to share amazing success stories day after day. In this article, Ajax tackles 10 reasons why people are sabotaging their own happiness and how you can turn it around.
Happiness is an interesting concept and is often times mistaken for a goal that must be achieved. Instead, I believe it to be a way of life, and a very simple and easy choice that must be made on a daily basis by each of us. We must choose to be happy and if we don’t intentionally do so, we will often times fall into a bad trap wondering why we can’t seem to find joy.
Happiness is not something that is tied to a material item, and it has nothing to do with a goal that must be accomplished. It has been proven that if you are counting on a particular goal or accomplishment to bring you your happiness, you are significantly less likely to accomplish that goal, and even if you do, you will quickly realize that the accomplishment will not provide you with long-term happiness and joy.
No, happiness and inner joy is more about finding enjoyment in life, no matter what you have or what you have done. If you are young, you can’t expect to have hoards of accomplishments under your belt. But you probably would still like to be happy. So why on earth would you link your happiness to your accomplishments?? It’s madness!
Happiness is not about the past and it certainly is not something you must pursue for the future. Too many people sabotage their own joy by stressing about their past and future and allowing it to keep them down. Ajax states…
Reliving conflicts, missed opportunities, and painful memories can take a toll on you emotionally and mentally. You can also create nightmarish scenarios by spending too much time in the future and imagining how your health could fail or that your relationship will fall apart.
When you really think about it, it makes no sense not to be happy. We all only get one life, and everyone will die eventually. So why spend your life being unhappy? You won’t make it out alive anyways, so you may as well enjoy every waking hour to the best of your ability.
Happiness is a choice, not an accomplishment. You can be just as happy if you a broke beggar on the side of the road, than if you are wealthy business mogul with the power to move worlds.
In fact, often times the former will be much happier, because they have less to stress them out!
