Marshall Mathers, otherwise known as world renowned rapper and record producer Eminem, is considered the most successful rap artist of all time. He has sold over 172 million albums making him one of the best selling artists of all time and has amassed a fortune of nearly $200 million.
More importantly, he did something that inspires us all. Against all odds, he entered the world of hip hop and inspired millions of people with his controversial words and rhymes. He was beaten up, broken down, and booed off stage more times than you can imagine. But he’s made it to levels that most aspiring rappers only dream of.
Enjoy Eminem’s Top 9 Rules for Success:
1. Get up and do it again
The first time Eminem ever picked up a microphone and rapped on stage to a legitimate audience, he was booed. After that experience, he claims to have gone home and decided to quit right there and then. Of course, if he had actually gone through with that decision, he probably would not be the world renowned artist that he is today.
He says it may have been a few hours after his initial decision that he decided to get back on the horse. You have to be willing to fall down a few times, especially if you are trying to accomplish something great like Marshall Mathers was. The important thing is to get right back up and try again!
2. Know what you want
The best way to get exactly what you want in life, is to know exactly what you want in life. Think about it, how can you possibly achieve a goal if you don’t know exactly what goal you are working towards?
It’s an interesting concept, but we are all guilty of setting vague goals in our lives and then expecting to somehow magically achieve every aspect of our poorly defined goal. “I’ll figure out the details of what I want somewhere down the road”, we tell ourselves. But the truth is, the real journey doesn’t start until you know what you truly want and can envision it in your mind.
Figure out what you want and go for it.
3. Find what you’re good at

You don’t have to be good at everything in your field. I think a common myth that entrepreneurs and business people make is that they have to be good at everything in their business or else they won’t succeed. The truth is, you only have to be good at a few things. But the trick is, you need to become the best at those few things. Everything else can be delegated.
This applies to anything you are looking to accomplish in life, but it particularly applies to business. You should be looking for your unique angle and that small advantage that you can leverage like crazy.
4. Believe in yourself
I think every single “Top 10” list that we’ve published on this website has shared this idea. With that being said, I won’t go into detail, because it is stated enough in the self-development world. But Eminem put it as #4 on his top 10 rules for success in the video above, so we put it down here in the summary!
5. Learn from others
There are already people ahead of you in the game. Too many people try to reinvent the wheel and completely shut out anyone who is trying to help them or they can learn a great amount from. It’s a shame, because a lot of time is wasted trying to figure out how to do things that others have already figured out and will gladly share with you.
Make it a habit to find your inspiration and learn as much as you can from others in your field. Ask questions, find mentors, and gather as much inspiration and information from people who have accomplished what you are looking to accomplish.
6. Don’t be afraid to try
This goes back to the “Get up and try again” tip. If you are afraid to try something, how will you ever accomplish it? Ahh, trick question…YOU CAN’T! So next time you are in a position that makes you uncomfortable, or are at a crossroads that is forcing you to try something scary and new, ask yourself “What’s the worst that can happen?”
Then do it.
7. Take the good with the bad
One of the key take aways from the above video is just because you have achieved a certain level of success or have amounted a certain amount of wealth, does not mean all problems suddenly go away. Sure, succeeding in life/business and particularly in the financial realm most definitely wipes out a lot of problems. But with the exit of these old problems, come new ones.
Suddenly, you now have the issue of where to put all your money, or how to keep all the gold digging “friends” away. Or you may have trouble keeping your privacy once you “make it big”.
The point is that no matter where you are in your journey, you’re going to have problems! It’s inevitable! So instead of trying to avoid all your problems, tackle them head on and accept that they are there.
8. Find your inspiration
Everyone needs inspiration to achieve their dreams. This does not necessarily have to be a famous person. It can be your children or your parents or any other group of individuals that you so badly want to help. It can material objects if you are inspired by that type of thing. The important thing is to find that thing that fires you up inside and motivates you to work hard. Once you find it, think about it ALL THE TIME.
9. Be determined
You have to be determined to get what you want! That’s what Marshall Mathers says, anyway. He was determined to get what he wanted and he worked his butt off to get it.
That’s all that needs to be said for this particular point…
