Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income, a blog and weekly podcast about online business, recently created a new segment to his website called SPI TV. It’s pretty cool, and I have a feeling he’ll share some interesting tips for succeeding as an entrepreneur or and individual who works from home.
In the 4th episode of SPI TV, Pat comes on to explain 9 ways to get into “work mode” and feel energetic about it. Some of these strategies are things you literally have never heard of (see #1), and I have a feeling you really enjoy this list…
Here are 9 Ways to Get A Boost of Energy Before You Work:
1. Wash the dishes
Told you this one was weird! Washing the dishes is something that will get you in the groove of working because you’re getting your hands busy by scrubbing the filth off your pots and pans. It gets you feeling good and productive and wanting to achieve more.
And as a side note, if you’re married, it makes your wife (or husband) happy.
2. Clear your work space
There is nothing more frustrating or distracting than having a cluttered work space. When you are trying to put focused energy into a project, having papers and clutter all around you will not send out good endorphins. It will make you feel crappy and as if your life is a mess.
Clear that stuff out and feel the freshness of a clear, focused work zone.
This certainly is not one you havn’t seen before. Get on the treadmill, do some push ups and get your body moving. It can be difficult to maintain focus if you feel groggy and your body hasn’t gotten it’s daily dose of movement out of it’s system.
Get your stuff shakin’ and you’ll be much more ready to sit down and get to work.
4. Set a timer
This is something that I have never thought to do. Pat suggests setting a timer because your brain responds to time ticking off the clock. When the timer hits zero, you stop working for a bit. This will get your tail moving and will make it competitive. It’s you against time!
5. Envision the end
Think about what the finished project will look like a few hours from now when you are all done. That will probably make you feel pretty good, huh? That feeling of accomplishment is powerful, so try to not only imagine what your finished work will look like, but also the feeling of accomplishment for getting it done.
And as a side note, think about how you are going to reward yourself when you finish your work and have time to play.
6. Read or say an inspirational quote
This is something that inspires you and gets you thinking. If you can put together a database of quotes (or find one online), then you can pick a new quote each day. This will no doubt provoke some motivation within you and also stretch your mind by allowing you to interpret your own meaning to the quote.
7. Listen to music
And not just any music, we’re talking music that pumps you up! Think of yourself as an athlete, and athletes are always listening to hype music to get them fired up.
8. Drink water or coffee
This is what will get your throat cleared and give you a quick jolt of refreshed energy. Water is obviously the healthier choice, but if you feel that coffee gets you focused more than water, then that may be the better choice.
9. Use the same routine
Don’t try to use a different routine every day of the week; find a routine that works for you and stick to it!
It’s really that simple. Once you have a quality routine that gets you in the zone every single time you are looking to get into work mode, there is really no stopping you from accomplishing everything you want in your business and career.
