7 Amazing Success Lessons from Pablo Picasso

Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a famous Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor who lived most of his adult life in France; he is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work.

Among his most popular works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937), his portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.

Picasso demonstrated uncanny artistic talent in his early years, painting in a realistic manner through his childhood and adolescence; during the first decade of the 20th century his style changed as he experimented with different theories, techniques, and ideas.

His revolutionary artistic accomplishments brought him universal renown and immense fortune throughout his life, making him one of the best-known figures in 20th century art.

1. Get into Action

“Action is the foundational key to all success.”

The first part of done is do; to succeed you must be in action. Put together a “brainless” strategy for your success and work that strategy day-in and day-out. Success will only find you if you’re in action. Are you in action?

2. Be Like a Child

“All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

Artists create, to succeed you must create. You must create a better life from what you have now, just as a child you have the power to create. The question is are you going to do it. You can make excuses, you can complain, or you can create the life of your dreams, starting right now.

3. Learn How to Steal

“Bad artists copy. Good artists steal.”

When you steal, you make it your own. So much so that the person who’s been defrauded doesn’t even recognize that they’ve been heisted. You give your stolen ideas a new twist, a new spin; in a way that only you can do. …Only bad artists copy!

4. First Things First

“Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.”

Sometimes things get worse, before they get better. Even after you climb one mountain, you have to go into a deeper valley to climb the next mountain. Life happens in cycles; sometimes you have to tear down before you can build up.

5. The Imagination Is Powerful

“Everything you can imagine is real.”

When you imagine something you make it real. It then exists in the world of imagination. Through right action that imagination becomes reality. But it all starts in the imagination. Every great company, every great concept, was once just an idea in someone’s imagination.

6. Think Bigger

“He can who thinks he can, and he can’t who thinks he can’t. This is an inexorable, indisputable law.”

There are two types of people, those who think they can, and those who think they can’t, in which do you belong. It’s pretty simple, if you really believe you can do something, and if you can hold on to that belief, through the ups and downs you will accomplish it. You have to think big, and to think big you have to talk big. I’m not talking about talking to others; you have to talk “big” to yourself.

7. Experience

“I am always doing that in which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.”

Nothing can take the place of experience. Do what you’ve never done, to get what you’ve never gotten. You have to expand your horizons; you have to enter new waters. When you do, you will grow, and you will change.

Wonderful list Alex! I love the “talk big to yourself, not to others” part. I’ve been thinking about that for a while now, and you’ve articulated it really well.

Keep up the good work 🙂

Excellent article. I especially like the advice to think like a child. Children’s minds are so free of prejudices.

“I am always doing that in which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.” As a (new) copywriter and (old) blogger, when asked if I can do this or that. I always respond with, yes. Then find out how to do it. Great man. Great post!

As an art major, though the Impressionists are my favorites, I love Picasso’s sense of color, composition and the way his designs draw you in. That is why he’s considered a master. Applying it to mindset and business makes sense to me!!

I like the fact that your blog is easy to read, not too much on each point but to the point. I’ve strived to be child like in certain areas of my life but not easy. Great article
