6 Subconscious Reasons You Should Smile As Much As Possible

Why is it that we live in such an unhappy world these days? People walk around the streets pissed off for no apparent reason and they show it on their face. It’s really kind of a shame. Here are 6 reasons why you should smile more often:

1. It radiates positive energy within you

Believe it or not, the structure of your face actually signals your emotions to feel certain ways. When you are frowning or making any form of negative facial expressions, it tells your brain to feel sad or upset or angry, etc. However, when you lift that frown upside down as they say, and show your pearly whites in a positive way, it won’t take long for your brain to pick up on that signal.

Your brain will see that you are shifting your expression and quickly start to shoot off positive endorphins, making you feel better and more positive…for no particular reason! Isn’t that nuts?! Next time you are feeling down, or upset, try forcing yourself to smile for 60 seconds. Think of something funny or goofy if you have to. See how it changes your mood.

2. It shifts your attitude

Like I mentioned above, when you smile on purpose, it quickly begins to shift your attitude. You start to see things in a more positive way. Think about it, it’s hard to feel sad or upset when you are constantly smiling. Your brain is subconsciously thinking, “I’m smiling, I must be happy about something!” And with that you will start to feel a lot more positive and happy in the present moment.

3. It strengthens your mental toughness

These first 3 points all tie in together, but each make a different argument. When you smile and force your brain to feel positive, it’s going to make you feel amazing about the present moment. And by creating these moments over and over again, it’s going to start to make you feel invincible. It’s going to start to make you feel like no matter what happens in this world, you have complete control over your emotions.

That right there my friend, is toughness.

4. It makes others more interested in you

When you are going around constantly smiling, don’t you think other people are going to notice you? Think about it. Everyone in this world is just so dang miserable. When you look at people walking around the streets, they are a) looking at the ground b) looking at their phone c) just looking plain miserable. It’s really a rather sad thing.

What do you think people are going to think when they see you walking down the street smiling? Not because you are listening to standup comedy with your headphones plugged in or because you are walking with a friend who makes you laugh. Simply because it’s a good day and you want to bring some joy to yourself…and the world! They’re probably going to look at you and think, “What’s she so happy about it? I want in!”

5. It makes others want to be around you

People want to be around positive people. Well actually, let me rephrase that: Quality people want to be around positive people. Low quality people have no desire to be around positive people because all they want to do is sit around and bitch about there crappy lives with other people who they feel will understand them. You don’t want to immerse yourself around those types of people.

Smiling is one of the best ways to attract quality people into your life.

6. It lightens up your peers’ day

Whether it’s your family, your friends, your coworkers, or just the lady working behind the deli counter, a smile is worth a thousand words. Flash your bright smile to people and don’t stop. I truly believe that smiling is one of the best ways to make other people happier. They will see you smile, and many times, will smile back simply out of courtesy. How would it look if you smiled at them and all they did was give you a grouchy look? Not good!

And when they smile back at you, whether it’s out of reciprocity or not, it still will spark a little positive momentum within their body. It forces their subconscious to rethink what they have been allowing to control their emotions lately. And maybe, just maybe, you will be the spark that makes someone’s day.

It’s amazing how a seemingly insignificant thing can make a big difference. I guess we should always find a reason to smile, even if it’s just for the sake of smiling itself 🙂 The positive energy created can do wonders. Thanks for this post, it’s really inspiring!

Smiling is the universal sign of acceptance. It shifts even our seemingly insignificant interactions toward the positive.

Yes it’s true, oddly some docs now use Botox to treat depression for this reason. And visualization of the positive changes your facial expression and then in a loop, helps you become happier. Thanks for the uplifting post!
