I was recently watching a 10-minute video from Brendon Burchard, on the topic of “designing your perfect day”. Although I have mixed feelings about Burchard’s work and his rise to fame (ask me about this in the comments), his energy and spirit always has a way of making me feel like a million bucks.
I’d like to share with you what I took from this video and how I think it can help you design your own perfect day and experience that as often as possible.
1. Clarify what your ideal day feels like
This seemed to be the point that Brendon touched on most through his video. The reason for this is because you are the only person who can decide if you had a perfect day, and the only way to determine that is if you feel as if you had a perfect day.
How would you feel during, and at the and of your perfect day? Chances are, you’d feel confident, happy, grateful, connected, fulfilled, and have a sense of contribution among other things.
Clarify your feelings so that you can start to craft activities that evoke these emotions and feelings inside you.
2. Who would you spend time with?
This is important because the people around us have a large impact on how we feel and our overall happiness. On your perfect day, who would you spend the majority of your time with?
Think about it hard, and think about the emotions and feelings that these people evoke within you. You may have to be brutally honest with yourself in ways that scare you to death, but this is essential in order to understand who makes you happy and fulfilled…and who brings you down.
3. Clarify what you would do
This is something that most people would consider the first step. But the reason it is third on the list is because you must first determine how you want to feel, and then decide which activities make you feel that way. And of course, whom you want to partake in those activities with.
It may be a fulfilling day at your business where you nailed 3 new clients with your best friend and co-worker. It may be a day on the lake with your kids. What can you do to make you feel amazing and who would you most like to do it with?
4. Own your morning
I once heard a quote that if you intentionally make the first hour of your day great, the rest of the day will take care of itself. I love that philosophy.
Intentionally making your morning great is going to set the tone for your entire day. It will energize you and give you the positivity to tackle ANYTHING in the coming hours.
Whether it’s exercising, reading, singing in the shower, cooking an amazing breakfast…do what makes you FEEL TRULY ALIVE when you first wake up.
