10 Songs To Inspire or Lift You Up

I found this article by Debra Dane of HomeLifeSimplified.com.au via Twitter. I think it’s a great share and I highly recommend you check out her site and her other stuff. Enjoy the music to your ears…

I strongly believe in the power of music – it can transport you to another time and memory, set a mood, and inspire you.

My latest playlist was designed to be played in our car especially when I am driving with my two girls (ages 9 1/2 and 11). So many songs out there have terrible messages either in their actual lyrics or in the videos created to sell them. I wanted a good mix of songs I love and some of the best of what they enjoy.

I thought I would share 10 of those songs here so maybe you would find a song to add to your own mix and be lifted up!

1. Compass – Lady Antebellum

Someone sent me this song for its ties to my new business name (inner compass designs) and I listen to it daily now.

“You wanna give up ’cause it’s dark
We’re really not that far apart
So let your heart, sweet heart
Be your compass when you’re lost
And you should follow it wherever it may go
When it’s all said and done
You can walk instead of run
‘Cause no matter what you’ll never be alone”

2. Alive – Dami Im

“You can always break the rules
You can always dare to dance
But you gotta take a chance, a chance
You can always break the rules
You can always dare to dance
But you gotta take a chance, a chance

Don’t keep waiting for an open door
Break the lock and get something more
Make a move ’cause you’re alive, alive
We ain’t gonna get a second chance
Life ain’t nothing but a crazy dance
Let the moves ’cause you’re alive, alive”

3. Wake Me Up – Avicii

I mostly love this song for adding pep to my step but also love the lyrics.
“I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start”

4. Don’t You Worry Child – Swedish House Mafia

“Don’t you worry, don’t you worry, child.
See heaven’s got a plan for you.”

5. Brave – Sara Bareilles

One of the songs my kids and I sing all the time.

“Everybody’s been there,
Everybody’s been stared down by the enemy
Fallen for the fear
And done some disappearing,
Bow down to the mighty
Don’t run, just stop holding your tongue

Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave”

6. Change Your Life – Little Mix

My 9 yr old loves this band so of course I now have my favourites too.

“They can rip you, bring you down, down to their size
But they will never get to the heart you hold inside

You’re not the only one so let them criticize
You’re untouchable when you realize, oh oh oh

[Chorus:]
Change, change your life, take it all
We’re gonna stick together, know we’ll get through it all
Change, change your life, take it all
You’re gonna use it to become what you’ve always known
Change, change your life, take it all
Change, change your life, take it all

7. Cups – Pitch Perfect soundtrack

“I got my ticket for the long way round, the one with the prettiest of views”

8. Home – Phillip Phillips

“Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave (wave) is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m gonna make this place your home

Settle down, it’ll all be clear
Don’t pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
You’ve get lost, you’ve can always be found”

9. Try – Colbie Caillat

“Wait a second,
Why should you care, what they think of you
When you’re all alone, by yourself, do you like you?
Do you like you?

You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing

You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to bend until you break
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing”

10. Happy – Pharrell Williams

There is a reason this song is so popular – I dare you to listen to it and be grumpy- it will have you bopping and clapping along- guaranteed mood lifter.

“Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do”
